A couple of years ago, our pastor did a sermon series on marriage. In preaching on marriage and encouraging couples to strengthen their marriages, inevitably he had to highlight some of the struggles we humans commonly experience in marriage. I was sad to hear a teenage girl behind me say, "I'm never getting married." Granted, her parents were divorcing, so that played a major role in her feelings, I'm sure. Nonetheless, it inspired me to write down all the reasons I like/love/enjoy being married. I'm finally getting around to sharing those. :)
1. Having a snuggle buddy at night.
2. Having a built in companion for vacationing, eating out, watching a movie, going for a run, going to a wedding, DOING LIFE. Period.
3. Knowing that someone is always in my corner being my biggest cheerleader.
4. Being able to parent as a TEAM!
Yes, marriage is hard work. You are going to get on each other's nerves. He's going to forget to do something. You're going to forget how much physical attention he craves. The new will wear off. But six and a half years in and it's still so worth it. I also have to acknowledge that I received a husband who was already broken in (by his own admission), and that plays a large factor in how well we get along.
Hear me closely here: It's not only good, it's exceedingly, abundantly better than I even imagined in my head as a child/teenager/young adult.
