Here's my once-in-a-blue-moon blog post. A while back I commented on a post of Sarah Hagan's about factoring trinomials, so I receive notifications when others comment. Last week a teacher commented asking for an INB advanced organizer for factoring by grouping. She was asking Sarah, but I figured I might as well share what I have, too. The format of this page is inspired by Sarah's other factoring pages that I use, but like the commenter, I didn't find where Sarah had one for factoring by grouping when I needed it, so I made my own. I'm a big fan of color with purpose, and in my opinion it plays a larger role than the organizer itself in presenting this lesson. I'm also a big fan of the box method for polynomials and factoring, so you see that reflected here too. As for sequencing, I teach factoring by grouping second only to factoring out a common factor. I need factoring by grouping before factoring quadratic form trinomials.
